Richard earned degrees in Business and Financial Planning and Anthropology from the University of Alabama, where he also competed in track and field and cross country. He later served as a judicial intern with the City of Tuscaloosa Municipal Court before attending Florida Coastal School of Law.
While in law school, Richard held leadership roles with the Student Bar Association, founded and chaired the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Club, served on the Special Task Force on Leadership and Communication Skills, and was elected chair of the statewide Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Committee. He also volunteered with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and taught financial literacy in local high schools, earning the Pro Bono Award for outstanding community service.
As an attorney, Richard has served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge Alan King with the Jefferson County Probate Court and practiced estate planning, probate, and tax planning with Burton & Associates, the Law Office of Gene M. Sellers, and Dominick Feld Hyde.
Outside of his practice, Richard enjoys spending time with his family exploring Birmingham’s trails, local markets, and state campgrounds.
